Wow splendid post Hilke... The cardinal, the wood duck female and the pileated woddpecker shots are awesome.. but to be honest, thinking that you can get so many red winged blackbird in one shot makes me envious !
Thank you all for your nice comments. I didn't know they were Red-wings, thought crows at first, but flock much too large, then starlings. Was surprised to see the red wing patches on close-up. I have never seen such a large flock of this species.
The downy almost looks like an impressionistic painting - wonderful effect, Hilke - also the sumac and the late afternoon light in the field ... not to overlook the woodie hen!
